US Forest Service - Sweep the Peak
The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (SMNRA) includes 315,648 acres of national forest system lands in Southern Nevada’s Clark and Nye counties. Established in 1993 by the U.S. Congress, the more than 50-mile stretch of mountains includes three congressionally designated wilderness areas that total 79,500 acres: La Madre Mountain, Rainbow Mountain and Mt. Charleston.
Charleston Peak is 11,918 feet, and its surrounding area is a critical habitat to 73 sensitive plant and animal species; 24 of which cannot be found elsewhere in the world. The area also contains 18,000 acres of Bristlecone Pine, which are among the world’s oldest living species. For more information on the SMNRA or the Mt. Charleston Wilderness Area, please visit www.fs.fed.us.
